Tweeters
Know Some Types of Tweeters and Various Uses
By Janggun
A tweeter is designed to construct high frequencies of sound up to top limit of the human stands of hearing, which has range from 2.000 HZ up to 20.000 HZ. A tweeter is a Loudspeaker which inspires the name by some of birds. A tweeter was made from various materials depends on it brands or fabric, here some types of tweeters:
Cone tweeter:
Cone tweeters have very small and light size which is easy to move and mobile. Cone tweeters have the same characteristic and physically with woofer. Cone tweeters are now in the hifi era seems little bit difficult to find in the market.
Dome tweeter:
A dome tweeter is made of woven fabric, thin metal or other material and is constructed by attaching a voice coil to a dome which which is attached to the magnet or the top plate via a low compliance . It has range for coil diameter from 19 mm (0.75 in), through 38 mm (1.5 in)
Piezo tweeter
A Piezo tweeter has physically rugged and low cost, when compare to typical coil tweeters. This tweeter usually found in cheap stereo set. A Piezo tweeter contains a piezoelectric crystal coupled to a mechanical diaphragm.
Ribbon tweeter
Ribbon tweeters are made of very lightweight material and support for very high acceleration and would cover extended high frequency response. Push-pull ribbons are typically far more accurate than single-ended or “push” ribbons; they usually have higher power handling capacities as well, since diaphragm motion was far more tightly controlled
Planar-magnetic tweeter
Planar magnetic tweeter even knows as a quasi-ribbon. Planar magnetic tweeters are generally less expensive than true ribbon tweeters, but are not precisely equivalent as a metal foil ribbon is lighter than the diaphragm in a planar magnetic tweeter and the magnetic structures are different
Electrostatic tweeter
Electrostatic tweeters have the same in operation with a full-range electrostatic speakers or headphones. Electrostatics has reduced even-order harmonic distortion because of their push-pull design. These tweeters cost expensive, low in efficient, and has large size for full range design.
Ion tweeter
Ion tweeter also recognized as Plasma tweeters. It call ion because of ionized gas is electrically charged and so can be manipulated by a variable electrical field; it is possible to use a small sphere of plasma a tweeter. This tweeters has no capability to produce high output and has also has disadvantage.
AMT tweeter
AMT tweeter works by pushing air out perpendicularly from the pleated diaphragm. They are capable of considerable output levels and are rather sturdier than electrostatics or ribbons, but have similar low-mass moving elements.
Horn tweeter
Horns are usually used to control dispersion and to couple the tweeter diaphragm to the air for higher efficiency. Horn tweeter can improve the off-axis response of the tweeter. It could make relatively high driver acoustic impedance to the lower impedance of the air. Horn has a little bit different sonic signature than simple dome tweeters. I connected to Test this with Yam RXV663 along with POLK Audio R50 Main Channel to test it, through the supplied capacitor, sounded very good. Quality of the high
frequency was very clear not tinny sound as most of the folks reported, am sure it is going to sound much better if conncted via proper x over network. Bought this as a Gift to my brother who was in need of a… |
